Tia Thomas is a licensed clinical social worker and a certified hypnotherapist. She is licensed as a clinical social worker by the Georgia Composite Board and awarded the status of Certified Hypnotherapist by the National Guild of Hypnotists. She graduated with a master's degree from Georgia State University and has practiced in a variety of settings including with the State of Georgia (Department of Family and Children Services, Juvenile and Drug Court), Core Community Agencies, Psychiatric hospitals and in clinical private practice settings working directly with a psychiatrist. She has worked with a psychotherapy group in Atlanta and is now operating her private practice in Lilburn, GA.
She has been trained in modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness based techniques and a variety of other modalities. She has attended trainings at the Southeastern Eating Disorder Annual Conferences. Tia has worked with clients struggling with issues with self development, anxiety, depression, Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder, and other related disorders.
Today, Tia focuses much of her work providing therapy to young and adult women and their families. She specializes in helping women heal through past trauma and effectively manage their related symptoms. She empowers women to turn their pain into power. She also specializes in helping young women navigate the difficult decisions that are involved in middle school, high school and college. She has an ability to connect through her deep understanding of the challenges faced by teen and adult women. Her approach to therapy includes not only helping the client manage related symptoms but also in helping the client to gain a deeper understanding of the origin of the symptoms to faciliate a deeper level of healing. It is Tia's belief that resolving any underlying issue will inevitably lead to a longer lasting, sustained change.
She also enjoys working with couples to help them achieve their relationship goals through improving communication and conflict resolution skills. She has attended several trainings in couples therapy and incorporates a variety of modalities in her work with couples, including Imago and Gottman. She is not trained as an expert in these modalities but uses some of the techniques and principles when working with couples.
