Jocelyn Marcus has a BA in Psychology from Mississippi State University and is currently in the Master of Social Work program at Edinboro University. She previously worked at Project Safe domestic violence shelter in Athens for six years. Jocelyn also has experience volunteering at Bigger Vision Community Center in Athens and Women’s Resource Center in DeKalb County. Previously, Jocelyn completed an internship at Positive Growth Inc., which provides a broad array of mental health services to refugees and low-income residents in the Atlanta metro area.

Jocelyn has a passion for working with women and teenagers affected by trauma and violence. She has trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma-Informed Care. In her previous work, Jocelyn has helped domestic violence survivors achieve safety and recover from the trauma they have faced. Jocelyn tailors her work to individual client needs, and incorporates mindfulness, relaxation techniques, self-care, and expressive arts.

Trauma may be part of a client’s story, but it is not the whole story. Jocelyn enjoys working with clients to recapture their essential selves after feeling they have “lost themselves” to trauma. Trauma can cause a disconnect between mind and body, and mindfulness and grounding techniques can help survivors to feel “whole” again.

In addition to trauma, Jocelyn sees clients experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, and women’s issues. She especially enjoys working with teens and preteens, who often feel judged and misunderstood. Jocelyn seeks to truly listen to and understand all her clients. She respects diversity and individuality and enjoys working with women and teens from all walks of life.
